Cut back to game 2 of the regular season: Gomes scores from second, beating the tag at home with a headfirst slide and jumps up, screaming an pumping his fist like it’s game 7 of the World Series. I didn’t pick them to win it all back then, but I realized that I really liked this team. I only made it to 2 games this year before taking my 3 year old to game @ of the ALDS. We got there late due to traffic and immediately after we sat down Papi knocked one into the Sox bullpen. My son jumped up and yelled “Go Baseball”…. he doesn’t quite get it yet.
Unlike last year’s team, I enjoyed watching these guys. Everyone contributed in the post season. Drew gave us sick defense and finally went Yard in game 6. Ross knocked in a few in game 5. Victorino and Gomes had horrible BA’s, but got a few timely hits that won games for the team. Breslow…. well he was great up until the World Series.
I love this team. I hope they can keep it together, though I bet Drew is gone and Bogearts get the SS spot, with Middlebrooks at Third. Keep Naps at first, Shane in Right, Nava/Gomes in left. We need a catcher who can hit, but those are few and far between, so Salty/Ross might be our best option. Ellsbury is going to get major money and I just don’t see ownership throwing $20m/5 years at him (ESPN agrees).
Love this team. Happily wearing my beat to shit Sox hat that I’ve had for 10 years.
